After the Argentinian Oscar we should convene a discussion on the future of the industry

Oscar recognition for Latino Filmmakers


From standout performances to work behind the scenes, several Hispanic filmmakers earned Academy Award recognition this year. They made us laugh, made us think and made some of us want to learn how to dance. The nominees are:

Penélope Cruz

Entrevista con Claudia Llosa


“Es el sueño de todo cineasta, esta película nos ha dado tanto que todavía no me puedo creer la nominación”, ha declarado la directora peruana Claudia Llosa, cuyo filme “La teta asustada” ha obtenido hoy una candidatura al Óscar como Mejor película de habla no inglesa.

Llosa, muy emocionada, ha manifestado sentirse “muy contenta” por la nominación, no sólo por ella sino por todo el equipo que hizo posible la película. “Había una selección de películas tan buenas, era tan difícil, que no te lo esperas”, apuntó a Efe la directora en conversación telefónica desde Barcelona, donde reside. Two Latin American films shortlisted for Oscar’s foreign language


Oscar has chosen the nine foreign films from 65 submitted that will advance to the next round of voting in the category, it was announced today.

The two Latin American films are:

Argentina, “El Secreto de sus ojos,” Juan Jose Campanella, director

Peru, “The Milk of Sorrow,” Claudia Llosa, director.
