“The future” by chilean director Alicia @scherson to open the 2013 @RIFFfilmfest

The future by Alicia SchersonAfter its world premiere at Sundance and a visit to the Rotterdam festival, The future by Chilean director Alicia Scherson will be presented in its Italian premiere during the RIFF – Rome Independent Film Festival, which twelfth edition will be taking place in the capital, at the Nuovo Aquila cinema, on April 4-11. Coproduced by Movimento Film and Mario Mazzarotto, who is distributing it together with Chile, Germany and Spain (read the news story), the film is one of the many European and world premieres to be announced as being presented at the independent festival.
Among the other entries are: Ombline [trailer] by French Stéphane Cazes, with Mélanie Thierry, winner of the 2010 César for best female newcomer; Silent City [trailer], second feature film by Dutch Threes Anna, recognised in 2012 at the San Sebastian International Film Festival; the Hungarian Canadian coproduction The Maiden Danced To Death by Endre Hules, winner of the European MediaPlus Award; and Don’t Stop by Richard Rericha.
Much space has been left to the Italian feature film section, with seven film debuts. Among the selected films: Carta Bianca by Andres Arce Maldonado, Lost in Laos by Alessandro Zunino, Transeurope Hotel by Luigi Cinque with Pippo Delbono, Aquadro by Stefano Lodovichi and Le formiche della città morta by Simone Bartolini.
Among the parallel events, a forum on April 6 on “new profiles from European independent cinema production”, with producers from the project ‘Producers on the Move’ from the European Film Promotion (EFP). They will discuss international distribution dynamics. The attention given to film distribution will be underlined by the presence of Pascale Faure (head of shorts for Canal+, France) and Philippe Kreuzer (Bavaria Media GmbH) on the international jury.
RIFF awards will be handed out towards the end of the festival, supported among others by MiBAC, to a total value of over €50,000.
