Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Institute (ICAU) has two new support lines for minority co production-s, with an amount of USD 190.000.
These funds are selective and the main eligibility criterion is based in the quality of the project: creative, artistic and financial aspects.
The genres which can apply are live action, documentary and animation feature films.

Uruguay – Brazil coproduction

One of this funds has been held from 2011, established by the Cooperation Protocol signed between ICAU and Brazilian Cinema Agency (ANCINE), and supports co- productions between Brazil and Uruguay. This bi-national fund has an annual budget of USD 300.000 and supports two co-productions per year.

On 2011 this fund awarded “Valeu Boi” (Bull Down) presented by Malbicho (Uruguay) and Desvia Producoes Audiovisuais (Brazil) and “Otra historia del mundo” (Other story of the world) presented by Tres Mundos Cine y Vídeo Ltda (Brazil) and Lavorágine Films (Uruguay.)

The supported projects in 2012 were “Los Enemigos del Dolor” (The Enemies of pain) submitted by Cordón Films (Uruguay) and Primo Filmes (Brazil) and “Mulher do Pai” (Woman of the Father) presented by Okna Produçoes (Brazil) and Transparente Films (Uruguay).

Minority coproductions

The other fund available is for co-productions held under the Convenio Iberoamericano de Integración Cinematográfica. It also focuses on live action, documentary and animation feature films and supports one project per year.

ICAU awarded in 2012 “El 5 de talleres”(The Midfielder), directed by Adrián Biniez and presented by Mutante Cine (Uruguay) and Morocha Cine (Argentina) with about USD 40.000.
