Everything is ready: The Berlinale Film Fest and The Berlinale Residency programme open next week
The Berlinale Residency programme offers six directors, who have already enjoyed their first success on the international festival circuit, a grant to come to Berlin for four months. Working in close contact with individually selected mentors and market experts, the directors can take a decisive step toward placing their next film project on the way to a successful theatrical release.
Why Berlinale Residency?
The Berlinale is one of the largest audience festivals in the world. The new Berlinale Residency programme encourages filmmakers in the initial stages of the filmmaking process, to tap into the audience potential of their projects without diluting the creative core of the story.
Every project, from arthouse drama to feelgood movies, has its own demands. The Berlinale Residency brings six filmmakers and their producers together with different experts from the international media industry. These experts deal carefully with the specific challenges facing the projects, from script polishing to marketing strategies.
An international jury chooses filmmakers with projects in advanced stages of screenwriting. In the four months prior to the festival, the Berlinale together with the renowned Nipkow Programm, will provide the necessary means to ensure their film projects enjoy a successful theatrical release, beyond festival participation. In addition, the directors and their producers work together with international market experts to develop a financing and marketing strategy specifically tailored to their screenplay. The team of the Berlinale Co-Production Market will aid them in successfully establishing contact with suitable partners for production and financing.
