The 15th Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival has announced its official selection of 76 films from 14 countries, representing the best recent films from Latino talent. The festival, which runs from Sunday, July 17 through Monday, July 25 at Hollywood’s Egyptian Theater, includes 29 narrative features, 13 documentaries, and 34 shorts.
Two films – “Escribeme Postales A Copacabana” by Bolivian director Thomas Kronthaler and “Los 100 Sones Cubanos,” a Cuban documentary by Edesio Alejandro and Rubén Consuegra – will be holding their World Premieres at the Festival.Other highlights include “Chico & Rita,” a feature-length animated musical making its West Coast premiere, Veronica Riedel’s Càpsulas, the first ever entry in the festival’s history by a female director from Guatemala, and a special screening of the Chile/Mexico co-production “¿Alguien Ha Visto A Lupita?” directed by Gonzalo Justiniano.
“This year’s program offers a balanced selection of new voices and voices that we have heard before. Together and individually they go beyond telling Latino stories; they narrate in film the human experience,” said Marlene Dermer, Executive Director and co-founder of LALIFF.
The Opening Night Film, the Closing Night Celebration Film and the Preservation Film Presentation will be announced shortly.
