Barbican – London

In his new film, acclaimed Cuban director Fernando Perez (Suite Havana, Madrigal) focuses on the early years of famed revolutionary Jose Marti (1853 – 1895), as he experiences the many injustices perpetrated under the Spanish colonial rulers and navigates personal conflict with his Spanish father.

More of a spiritual journey than a biography, this is a fascinating insight into the inner world of the man who would become known as ‘El Apostol’.

‘Each Cuban has their own Martí. In this film, I would like to express my own.’ – Fernando Perez
