ROLL OUT THE LATIN FILMS
We’re usually on a film diet of American and British films, with the occasional home-grown flick or anime gracing our television and cinema screens. But out in the world, there’s a huge realm of international films – and the Latin American Film Festival , held in Sydney, shows off a few of the Latino world’s finest.
The festival runs from the 1st to the 19th of September this year, and it aims to recognise the latest Latin American films under categories such as Best Feature Film, Best Documentary, Best Short Film, and Best Local (Australian) Film, as voted by attending audiences. While the official timetable hasn’t yet been released (though it will get released on the festival’s website here the previous years of the festival have only dazzled Sydneysiders. At Sydney’s favourite venues, go along to see the films, meet the directors and vote for your favourite, in an intoxicatingly vibrant environment.
The creative forces behind the festival hope that not only can they educate Australian audiences about Latin American film and life, but they’re also hoping to raise funds and awareness for community projects they support. The festival is 100% volunteer run, and also run by those who know the industry and culture inside-out. Go along for some international viewing, and some travel without leaving your city!
