Vamos Festival: Mexico has arrived to UK
There’s no doubt that ¡Vamos! has taken the idea of a Latin cultural festival to a whole new level. Amid a fevered brew of salsa dancing, Colombian food, leading contemporary Afro-Cuban dance, photography and multimedia, and multi-genre performances across 10 days is a radical strand of arts from Mexico. Surf rock and Mexican wrestling might be the most unusual of those, but promise a stunning centrepiece of a night on 9 July, with raw beats from Señor Beatnik and masked rock thrills from the Coyote Men, authentic masked Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling, and screenings of films starring the Mexican wrestler legend Santo. An accompanying season of films celebrating the centenary of the Mexican revolution means that all that’s missing is the margaritas.
