Havana will host Festival of French Cinema

The 13th Festival of French Cinema will take place in Havana and in other Cuban provinces from June 18 to July 9.

The inauguration of the festival “which includes 16 feature films” will be on Friday, June 18, at the Chaplin Theater, with the screening of “Le premier jour du reste de ta vie” (The First Day of the Rest of Your Life), a 2008 French film written and directed by Rémi Bezançon.

The film received nine César Award nominations, winning three (Best Editing, Most Promising Actor and Most Promising Actress). Other films to be screened during the festival include “The Writer”, “The Kidnapping”, and “For Her”.

Other movies included in the program include “Secret d´éfense” (Secrets of State), which will be introduced by its director, Philippe Haim, and “Welcome to the North” by Dany Boon, which was nominated for the Goya Awards this year in the category of Best European Film.

    The French Cinema Festival Returns

    The always expected French Cinema Festival, will develop this year its thirteenth event with a significant presence in several theaters of the Cuban capital and other 25 in the rest of the country.

    For the opening night that will take place as customary in Charles Chaplin Theater next June 18 at 8:30 p.m., a significant delegation of French film directors is expected. The film to be exhibited on the opening ceremony will be THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, of Remi Bezançon, winner of several awards and filmed in year 2007.

    In total, the Festival will present 16 feature films of recent French production, all of them in 35 millimeters format. As well as six animation movies for children over 12 years, in DVD support and stereo sound.

    The Festival will be developed in theaters Chaplin, Yara, Acapulco, Alameda and at rooms 1 and 2 of Multicine Infanta. It will also expand to Glauber Rocha Room of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation and other four venues: Victor Hugo House, International Cinema and Television School of San Antonio, UNEAC headquarters, and to the Pedagogic Institute Enrique Jose Varona.
