19/12/2009 at 5:41 am

Submission Deadline: April 30, 2010

The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival (VLAFF) is pleased to announce an open call to British Columbia artists to create the poster for “VLAFF 8,” which will take place from September 2 – 12, 2010. We are looking for an image that represents Latin American Cinema in an interesting, relevant and eye-catching way, and in a way that avoids stereotypes and clichés. In addition to the poster, the winning artwork may be featured on other VLAFF promotional materials including transit shelter ads, t-shirts and print media. So instead of idling away the winter with dreams of the warm, Latin American sun, put your creativity to work and design our poster!

About VLAFF

VLAFF is a non-profit cultural promoter that showcases perspectives of Latin American cultures through new full-length feature films, documentaries and shorts films. Now in its 8th year, VLAFF promotes dialogue between cultures, and explores historical and social issues through the eyes of filmmakers. VLAFF offers a number of exceptional highlights including:

o premières and screenings of award-winning films

o venues to showcase the next generation of Latin American filmmakers

o interactive panel discussions

o cultural and community events

o monthly year-round screenings

o seminars and workshops with industry leaders including Jack Green (Unforgiven, Bridges of Madison County), Roberto Schaefer (Monster’s Ball, The Kite Runner), and Academy Award winning Cinematographer Guillermo Navarro (Pan’s Labyrinth).

In our short history, VLAFF has arrived “on the map” of the Latin American festival circuit. Help us capture the unique essence of our festival with a contemporary and memorable design for VLAFF 8.

Please visit www.vlaff.org to learn more about the festival.

Contest Guidelines:

The contest is open to all British Columbia artists.

There is a limit of three entries per person.

All entries must be received by Friday, April 30, 2010.

Please include your name, address, email and phone number on the back of each entry.

Entries must be mounted on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ board and the design must be easily translated to a variety of print materials such as larger posters, newsprint ads, cotton t-shirts, and bus shelter ads. We may be in contact after the submission deadline to request an electronic version of the submitted work.

In the artwork, please incorporate:

September 2- 12, 2010

The contest winner will receive a $500 prize and wide-ranging exposure. The name of the winner will be publicized on our website and in our monthly e-newsletter.

An internal jury will select the winning design. Entries will be evaluated based on appeal, content and marketability. The decision of the jury is final.

VLAFF does not assume responsibility for entries. Artists providing a self-addressed, stamped envelope will have their designs returned. The winning artwork will become the property of VLAFF.
