Monterrey Internacional Film Festival presents its Oficial Selection
Last June 9th, in press conference, names and titles were given about the Official Selection for the 5th Monterrey International Film Festival, which will be held on August 21st to 29th.
Dr. Romeo Flores Caballero, President of the State Arts Council of Nuevo León (CONARTE), informed that this year, 2,424 submissions coming from 117 countries were received, from which 1,869 came through the call for entries campaign and 555 were submitted by invitation. He highlighted the fact that Australia is this year’s Guest Country.
Juan Manuel Gonzalez, Festival Director, said that “the prestige of the Festival has been growing, proof of that is that the number of submissions has gone 30% up this year.”
On the side, Luis R. Garza, Programming Director, said that Mexico was the country with most submissions, with 338 titles, followed by Germany, with 235, Spain with 231 and France, with 133. Six countries have submitted films for the first time in the Monterrey Int’l Film Fest: Bahrein, Belarus, Cyprus, Belize, Angola and Syria.
As a part of the distinguished facts, the Festival announced the presence of Peter Greenaway, known by films such as “The Draughtsman’s Contract” and “The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover.”; Greenaway will participate in the Feature Documentary Film in Competition with his newest title: “Rembrandt’s J’accuse.”
