A screening of Juan Carlos Martin’s “40 Days,” a hit at last month’s Hola Mexico festival in Los Angeles, highlights this fundraiser for the annual exhibition of Spanish- and Portuguese-language films. “40 Days” is an inversion of the well-worn road-trip-to-Mexico subgenre; this time it’s Mexicans, three educated, well-to-do friends, who journey to New York and back, in the process experiencing epiphanies about themselves, their country and the States. The festival is Oct. 14-19. Doors open 6 p.m. Thursday at Hollywood Theatre; tickets $15 (21 and over only); pdxlaff.org
