Hubert Bals Fund @IFFR announces winners with a staggering selection from Latin America CONGRATULATIONS!
After poring over a record number of 399 entries, the Hubert Bals Fund has finally chosen its Fall 2012 winners. 25 new film projects will receive grants from IFFR‘s fund for script development, digital production, post-production, distribution or workshops. Among the lucky ones are IFFR favourites as well as promising newcomers.

Film of the week: “Abrir puertas y ventanas” (Back to Stay) by Milagros Mumenthaler (Trailer)
For this week’s choice we have selected a film taking very soon part in the Argentine Film Festival London.
“Abrir puertas y ventanas” (Back to Stay) is Milagros Mumenthaler first full feature.
The script was written with support from Cinéfondation (Festival de Cannes) and Ateliers d’Angers (organised by Jeanne Moreau). Filming was also supported by funding from Rotterdam Festival, through Cinemart and the Hubert Bals Fund.
“Abrir puertas y ventanas” (Back to Stay) takes place in Buenos Aires at the end of summer. Marina, Sofia and Violeta are alone in the family home after their grandmother, who had brought them up, has died. They have to come to terms with her death, each in her own way.
Marina concentrates on her studies while looking after the household, whereas Sofia becomes obsessed by her appearance and goes out with friends.

Locarno’s Golden Leopard awarded to Argentina’s “Back To Stay”
The international jury headed by Portuguese producer Paolo Branco presented the festival’s top honour to Argentinian-born Milagros Mumenthaler for her debut feature Back To Stay (Abrir Puertas Y Ventanas).
The story of three sisters trying to come to terms with the death of their grandmother also earned the Silver Leopard for best actress for Maria Canale, the FIPRESCI Prize, and a special mention from (more…)
