A festival brings films from Latin America to Vienna
Among the 23 films are the oscar-nominated one by Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu, “Biutiful“, “La Vida de los Peces” by Matias Bize, which lately got the Goya-award for the best Latin American film, and “La Nana“, which got 24 awards all over the world. The festival has special programmes about Nicaragua and with musical films. It starts on the 31st of March with “La Yuma“, the first film made in Nicaragua in the last 20 years, director Florence Jaugey will be in the inauguration. (more…)
Chilean film “Huacho” to participate in South Korean festival
The movie describes the social conflicts in Chile during the period of its modernization, and will be one of four Latin American films presented at the event.
The Chilean film “Huacho” will be one of the four Latin American movies that will compete at the Jeonju Cinema Festival, one of the most prestigious of South Korea. The event is scheduled to take place between 29 April and 7 May next, revealed the organizers of the event.
Eleven movies will be presented at the festival, among them, “Castro”, by the Argentine Alejo Moguillansky; “Crab Trap” (“El vuelco del cangrejo”), by the Colombian Óscar Ruiz Navia, and (more…)
South American Cinema rises the temperatures in London
The British Film Institute in London is currently presenting the film series “South American Renaissance” showcasing some of the most representative films from the region from the past few years. The series that runs through August 31st at the BFI‘s Southbank theater is presenting Martín Rejtman‘s Los guantes mágicos (The Magic Gloves); Paz Encina‘s Hamaca paraguaya (Paraguayan Hammock); Lisandro Alonso‘s Liverpool; Lucrecia Martel‘s La mujer sin cabeza (The Headless Woman); Jose Padilha‘s Bus 174 and Pablo Stoll and Juan Pablo Rebella‘s Whisky, among other films from Argentina, Peru, Chile, Brazil and Uruguay.

La nana (Chile), premio al mejor largometraje Mostra Cine Latino de Cataluña
La producción chilena ‘La nana‘, del director Sebastián Silva, ha sido la ganadora del premio al mejor largometraje de la XVI Muestra de Cine Latinoamericano de Cataluña, que se clausuro el pasado viernes, tras ocho días de certamen en Lleida en los que se han proyectado un centenar de películas.
El presidente del jurado de la sección de largometrajes, el periodista, escritor y guionista Manuel Hidalgo, ha explicado hoy que esta película ha estado en clara pugna con el filme argentino ‘El hombre de al lado‘, de Mariano Cohn y Gastón Duprat, que se han llevado el premio a la mejor dirección.
