This past decade has seen an emergence of Mexican New Wave cinema. Like the filmmakers of Japan and France that came to prominence in the 50s and 60s, the 00s might belong to the auteurs of Mexico. Three directors in particular have captivated audiences around he world with their diverse body of work. Dubbed “The Three Amigos,” Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo Del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu have enjoyed mainstream success and turned the eyes of cinephiles around the world towards the nation of Mexico. Argentina, Mexico and Brazil winners
Cinema Tropical announced today the results of a poll of the top Latin American films of the past decade which is headed by Argentinean filmmaker Lucrecia Martel‘s La Ciénaga (2001).
Cinema Tropical has compiled a list of the Top Ten Latin American Films of the Decade (2000-2009), based on a survey of distinguished critics, scholars and film professionals based in the New York City area. (more…)
