Today at 8:00 pm in Berlin’s Generation section will take place the world premier of “Un mundo secreto” (“A secret world”) by mexican director Gabriel Mariño at Haus der Kulturen der Welt Kino 1 (E).
Also written by Marino, the film which on the last day of high school, a young woman leaves her world behind to begin a secret and mysterious journey of self-discovery. Eighteen-year-old María is a lonely and promiscuous dreamer struggling to make sense of her life in harsh and vibrant Mexico City. She embarks on an epic road trip, from Mexico City’s urban chaos to the deserts of Sinaloa and the vast oceans of La Paz. Within these immense and shifting landscapes, María comes of age. In a spectacular and spiritual conclusion, the natural world embraces María with pure poetic force.
Produced by Tatiana Gullera and Sobrevivientes Films‘ Jesus Magaña, a director in his own rights (“Abolicion de la propiedad,” “Sobreviviente”), “World’s” key finance was put up by Switzerland’s Visions Sud Est Fund. It was developed at multiple filmmaking initiatives including Argentina’s screenwriting lab TyPA Foundation.
“I wante
d to film a portrait of Mexican youth. There’s a lot of violence in Mexico, social instability, the future’s uncertain, and for the young, there’s little possibility to work or study,” Marino said. “World” is “an attempt to show how young Mexicans think and feel.” (source: Variety)
LA based sales company Shoreline will handle international sales outside Mexico.
Shoreline exec VP Sam Eigen said that he first viewed the pic at the San Sebastian’s Films in Progress rough-cut showcase and then pursued it aggressively.
This deal continues Shoreline‘s commitment to Latin American films.
