New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF) will celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Argentina showcasing five films by Argentine independent filmmakers.

About the Films:
Luna de Avellaneda, also known as Avellaneda’s Moon in English, is an Argentine feature film directed by Juan Jose Campanella, winner of 2009 Best Director Oscar Foreign Language Film award for “The Secret in Their Eyes”. The film stars Román Maldonado (Ricardo Darin) born during a carnival fair held at “Luna de Avellaneda,” a sports and social club located in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires. He is made a member for life of a club that used to have 8,000 members in its heyday, but now has dwindled to 300. He must fight for the club’s survival through his family crisis. (2 hr, 22 min)
Tres Deseos, also known as Three Wishes in English, is a romantic drama feature film starring Pablo (Antonio Birabent) and Victoria (Florencia Raggi), an Argentine couple who have been married for eight years, decide to go to Uruguay, to celebrate Victoria’s birthday and are in for a surprise. (1 hr, 38 min)
El Otro, also known as The Other in English, is a feature film starring Juan Desouza (Julio Chavez) lawyer in his late 40s, who’s happily married and his wife is expecting a child. On a business trip, Desouza embarks on an unintended journey when reaching his destination he discovers that the man traveling next to him is not sleeping but dead. (1 hr, 23 min)
Las viudas de los Jueves, also known as The Widows of Thursday in English, is an Argentinian drama centered around the secret struggles of the wealthy in one of Argentina’s most exclusive neighborhoods. Life seems perfect for t
he privileged living behind the walls of gated community Los Altos de Cascada. But as times get rough and secrets emerge, the dark side of the ‘perfect’ lives of four couples comes to surface.
El Corredor Nocturno, also known as Night Runner in English, is a thriller feature film about a stressed insurance executive returning from an unsuccessful business trip, he meets a mysterious man at the airport who presents himself as a friend and benefactor and encourages Eduardo to change his life and be free, but what he finds along with his freedom is far less certainty. (1 hr, 35 min)
