11th Documentary Film Festival in Santiago de Cuba

The 11th International Festival of Documentary Films “Santiago Alvarez In Memoriam” will take place in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba on March 8-13 with almost 20 countries represented.
A total of 22 films will be competing in this event that aims at promoting works dedicated to important topics of today’s world and at analyzing the role of documentaries. At the same time, more than 60 works will be screened out of competition.
The announcement was made by the president of the event’s organizing committee, Lazara Herrera, during a meeting with reporters in which she was accompanied by Luis Gonzalez Nieto and Roberto Smith de Castro, vice-presidents of the Cuban Institute of the Film Industry and Art (ICAIC, by its Spanish acronym).
For the eleventh consecutive year, Santiago de Cuba will host this festival that on this occasion will have delegates from Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Costa Rica, Chile, United States, Spain, Finland, France and Mexico.
Also present will be filmmakers from Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Venezuela and a delegation from the International School of Cinema and Television in San Antonio de los Baños in Habana province.
The event will be dedicated to Brazil and its program includes lectures and theoretical seminars by renowned figures of the documentary world.
