7th Santa Barbara Brazilian Carnaval

The 7th Annual Santa Barbara Brazilian “Carnaval Cultural” is unique in it’s format of promoting the Brazilian culture by integrating art and education, as well as the element of ecological and social concerns. The Brazilian Carnaval Cultural will bring a weekend extravaganza with three events and the exposure of Brazilian Culture in Santa Barbara County through popular art, cinema, lectures, dance and music.
The kickoff event for 2010 happens on Friday Feb 19th at 7pm at the Santa Barbara Central Public Library, hosted by Non-Profit SB Permaculture Network and featuring the film screening of “Foliar Brasil”, from director Carolina Paiva, a documentary-drama about three of the most important popular manifestations of Brazil, lectures about Brazilian Cinema and Brazilian Culture by Special Guests Hannah Jacobs from UCSB and Meire Fernades, founder of Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival;
Saturday Feb 20th at 9pm at So-Ho with the Carnaval Bowl Party featuring the local Afro-Brazilian band “Prakantar” the Batucada “Nos do Gheto”, Capoeira Sul da Bahia SB and Raiz Brazil Dance Company, plus an Art Expo by Brazilian artists;
Sunday Feb 21st at 2pm (*Location to be confirmed soon / please incentive readers to check full schedule and local/time conformations in our official website http://www.sbgraziliancarnaval.com ), featuring an audio-visual experience with short fimls, guest speakers and a special “Rio Style Samba Scholl” performance by Campbell Hall High Scholl Music Group from Studio City.
